It is with great pride to key in this message as the founder dean of the Faculty of Computing at the University of Sri Jayewardenepura (USJ) and I welcome you to this cyber presence of FoC.
FoC is a unique institution established in December 2022 to fulfill a long-felt need at the USJ. We take great pride in being the only place in Sri Lanka, encompassing both government and public sector higher educational institutes, where students can pursue a Bachelor of Computing Honours degree presently in three major subdisciplines: Computer Science, Software Engineering, and Information Systems.

At the FoC, our core mission is to address the ever-increasing demand for the IT/BPM talent pool. This demand is evident not only in Sri Lanka but also in the global job market. We have heeded the call by establishing a fully-fledged faculty dedicated to offering Honours degrees in major subdisciplines of computing, aligning our programs also with the ACM/IEEE Computing Curricula Recommendations.
Our commitment extends beyond undergraduate education. We are also dedicated to facilitating research in emerging areas of computing and providing opportunities for postgraduate education. This holistic approach ensures that our students are equipped with the knowledge and skills needed to excel in their chosen fields in academia as well as in corporate sectors.
The FoC at USJ is more than an educational institution; it is a vibrant community of scholars and learners. Our dedicated academic staff, with their diverse backgrounds and expertise, contribute significantly to the faculty’s academic and research standing. Through innovative research, self-study, and a relentless pursuit of academic excellence, they ensure that our students receive the most up-to-date knowledge and Skill Set of this Information Age.
Our undergraduate programs, spanning four years, offer a comprehensive curriculum that includes classroom teaching, student-centered learning activities, practicals, field visits, and industry training. We are committed to constantly updating our course content to provide students with the latest information in the ever-evolving field of computing.
Behind the scenes, our friendly and well-trained instructors, demonstrators, and non-academic staff play a pivotal role in supporting the academic and related activities of FoC. Their unwavering dedication ensures a seamless and enriching educational experience for all learners at FoC.
