Information about BComp(Hons) in IS degree program

Faculty of Computing (FoC) is the very first faculty among state universities, established (as the 11^th) faculty of the prestigious University, University of Sri Jayewardenepura (USJ) on December 22^nd,2022. This is the very first and only opportunity for SL youth to get to read for a Bachelor of Computing (Hons) degree in state universities. This article is focused on the Bachelor of Computing (Hons) in Information Systems Degree program offered by the FoC. This four-year(Hons) degree program is designed to equip students with the knowledge and skills needed to excel in the ever-evolving IT industry.

FoC commenced its academic activities in 2023 with the enrollment of the very first batch to follow BComp(Hons) in the IS degree program in May 2023 followed with the second intake in April 2024.

To be eligible for this degree program, applicants must have obtained at least a credit pass in the G.C.E (A/L) in the subjects of Combined Mathematics, Physics, or ICT

and 2 other “S” passes to any 2 other subjects.

Also, the applicants must have obtained “C” passes in the G.C.E (O/L) in English and mathematics.

Students who are entering this degree program will be able to obtain a BComp (Hons) in IS degree at the end of the four-year course.

BComp(Hons) in IS study program is designed to meet the increasing demand from both industrial and service sectors while focusing on developing graduates with a deep understanding of Information Systems, related applications, and competencies necessary to part take in endeavors leading to proper IT/Business Alignments. This study program aims to produce well-rounded professionals meeting international standards inclusive of IS Competency Areas as per IEEE/ACM curricula recommendations (https://is2020.hosting2.acm.org/) as well as Information Age Skill Set(https://sfia-online.org) for local and global workforce requirements from respective job markets.

Throughout the degree, you will cover various topics, including but not limited to

fundamentals of Information Systems
data/business analytics (Data mining, AI, BI)
data/ information visualization
business process management
Application Development/programming (web/mobile/UI-UX/OOP)
Organizational ethics

You’ll also learn about emerging technologies and mobile applications. One of the unique aspects of this degree program is the opportunity for a six-month internship in the last semester. This practical experience allows you to apply what you’ve learned in real-world settings and gain insights into the professional IT environment while assuring you the opportunities to continue these industrial placements as your professional career.

In your final year, you’ll have the chance to focus on specialized areas that interest you, and you’ll complete a comprehensive research or design project. This flexibility ensures that you can tailor your education to your career goals as well as interests in IS discipline to further studies leading to postgraduates.

ශ්‍රී ජයවර්ධනපුර විශ්වවිද්‍යාලයේ 11 වන පීඨය වන පරිගණක පීඨය රාජ්‍ය විශ්වවිද්‍යාල අතරින් ඇරඹුණු පළමු පරිගණක පීඨය වේ.ශ්‍රී ලංකාවේ තරුණ තරුණියන්ට රාජ්‍ය විශ්වවිද්‍යාලවල පරිගණක (ගෞරව) උපාධියක් සඳහා කියවීමට ලැබෙන පළමු සහ එකම අවස්ථාව මෙයයි. මෙම පීඨය මඟින් පිරිනැමෙන Bachelor of Computing (Hons) in Information Systems උපාධි පාඨමාලාව පිළිබඳව දැනුවත් කිරීම මෙම ලිපියේ අරමුණයි.මෙම සිව් අවුරුදු ගෞරව උපාධි පාඨමාලාව තොරතුරු තාක්ෂණ අංශයෙන් ශිෂ්‍යයන් සතු විය යුතු දැනුම හා කුසලතා සංවර්ධනය කිරීම සඳහා හඳුන්වා දී ඇත.

ශ්‍රී ජයවර්ධනපුර විශ්වවිද්‍යාලයේ පරිගණක පීඨය එහි අධ්‍යන කටයුතු 2023 වර්ෂයේ මැයි මස පළමු සිසු කණ්ඩායම සමඟ ආරම්භ කළ අතර මේ වන විට එහි කණ්ඩායම් දෙකක් අධ්‍යාපනය ලබයි.

අපොස උසස්පෙළ විභාගයෙන් සංයුක්ත ගණිතය, භෞතික විද්‍යාව, තොරතුරු තාක්ෂණය යන විශ්‍යනේගෙන් එක් විෂයකට “C” සාමාර්ථයක්හා තෙවන විෂය ලෙස ඕනෑම අනෙකුත් විෂයන් 2කට “S” සාමාර්ථ

මීට අමතරව අපොස සාමාන්‍යපෙළ විභාගයේ ගණිතය සහ ඉංග්‍රීසි සඳහා C සාමාර්ථ ද තිබීම මෙම BComp(Hons) SE උපාධිපාඨමාලාව සඳහා ඉල්ලුම් කිරිඉමට අවම සුදුසුකම වේ.

පාඨමාලාවට ඇතුළත් වන සිසුන් හට වසර 4ක් අවසානයේ Bachelor of Computing (Hons) in Information Systems උපාධිය පිරිනැමේ.

කාර්මික හා සේවා යන අංශ දෙකේම වැඩිවෙමින් පවතින ඉල්ලුම සපුරාලීම සඳහා තොරතුරු පද්ධති හා ඒ සම්බන්ධ යෙදුම්, නිපුණතා ඔප්නැංවීම තුළින් තොරතුරු තාක්ෂණ හා ව්‍යාපාරික කර්මාන්ත තුළ සාර්ථක ගමනක් යාමට මෙම පාඨමාලාව මඟින් උපාධි අපේක්ෂකයින් සූදානම් කරයි.

ඇතුළු විෂය ක්ෂේත්‍ර ගණනාවක් ආවරණය කිරිමට අවස්ථාව ලැබේ. එසේම ඔබගේ නවමු තාක්‍ෂණය සමග ගනුදෙනු කිරීමට අවස්ථා, තාක්ෂණික කුසලතා, ගැටළු නිරාකරණය, කණ්ඩායම් සහයෝගීතාවය, ව්‍යාපෘති කළමනාකරණය සහ ඵලදායී සන්නිවේදනය වැනි වටිනා හැකියාවන් වර්ධනය කරනු ඇත.(https://www.acm.org/binaries/content/assets/education/curricula-recommendations/is2020.pdf)

මෙම උපාධි වැඩසටහනේ එක් සුවිශේෂී අංගයක් වනුයේ අවසාන අධ්‍යන වාරයේදී මාස හයක සීමාවාසික පුහුණුවක් (six months internship) සඳහා අවස්ථාව ලැබීමයි. මෙම ප්‍රායෝගික අත්දැකීම ඔබට සැබෑ ලෝකයේ සිදුවීම් තුළ ඔබ උගත් දේ යෙදවීමටත්, වෘත්තිය තොරතුරු තාක්ෂණ පරිසරය පිළිබඳ අවබෝධයක් ලබා ගැනීමටත් ඉඩ සලසයි.

ඔබගේ අවසාන වසර තුළ, ඔබට විශේෂිත වූ උනන්දුවක් දක්වන ක්ශේත්‍ර කෙරෙහි අවධානය යොමු කිරීමට අවස්ථාව ලැබෙනු ඇති අතර ඔබ පුළුල් පර්යේෂණ හෝ සැලසුම් ව්‍යාපෘතියක් (comprehensive research or design project) සම්පූර්ණ කරනු ඇත. මෙම නම්‍යශීලීභාවය මඟින් ඔබේ අධ්‍යාපනය ඔබේ වෘත්තීය ඉලක්ක සහ උසස් අධ්‍යාපන රුචිකත්වයන්ට ගැලපෙන පරිදි සකස් කර ගත හැකි බව සහතික කරයි.

වත්මන් තොරතුරු තාක්ෂණ කර්මාන්තය තුළ, අපගේ උපාධිය අවසන් කර ක්ෂේත්‍රයට යොමුවන උපාධිදාරීන් ,යොමුවන රැකියා සඳහා ඉතා ඉහළ ඉල්ලුමක් පවතී. පහතින් දක්වා ඇත්තේ එයින් කිහිපයකි.
